Florencio “Butch” Abad serves as Chairperson of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats. He previously served as CALD Chair from 1999 to 2000 and brings extensive experience in Philippine public service and political leadership.
Abad previously served as Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management of the Philippines and held other senior government and political positions, including Secretary of Agrarian Reform and Secretary of Education.
As CALD Chairperson, he leads the organization’s regional efforts to strengthen democratic cooperation, dialogue, and resilience among liberal and democratic political parties across Asia.
His return to the CALD chairmanship marks a new chapter for the organization as it works to renew and strengthen democratic cooperation in a rapidly changing Asian region.
